Description

Paclobutrazol (PBZ) [(2RS, 3RS)-1-(4-chlorophenyl)-4, 4-dimethyl-2-(1H-1, 2, 4-trizol-1-yl)-pentan-3-ol] belongs to the triazole family. This compound regulates plant growth by influencing the isoprenoid pathway, inhibiting GA synthesis, decreasing ethylene production, and enhancing the content of both CKs and ABA. PBZ protects plants against several types of abiotic stresses, including chilling, water deficit, flooding, and salinity. It helps to maintain the correct water content, membrane stability, photosynthetic activity, and photosynthetic pigments. These compounds protect the photosynthetic machinery by enhancing the level of osmolytes, antioxidant capacity, and the levels of endogenous hormones, thus increasing fruit yield and quality.
